Release Date: May 27, 2016
The debut album of caustic, flesh-ripping death metal from Sweden’s GUTTER INSTINCT: ‘Age Of The Fanatics’ takes the legacy of Swedish death metal into darker territories. Following their debut EP ‘The Insurrection’, this new opus develops a blackened edge to their already haunting death metal, drawing influence from bands such as Teitanblood, Bölzer, Grave Miasma, Black Witchery and Portal whilst still reeking of that buzzsaw Swedish sound. Forging their own way organically through the mire of death metal, ‘Age Of The Fanatics’ is testament to the unsettling creative depth of the extreme metal underground.
Formed in 2012 in Helsingborg, Sweden – GUTTER INSTINCThave already received wide underground acclaim for their demo releases and the 2015 EP. Punishing live dates followed as they ravaged Scandinavia with the likes of Sadism, Chronus and Oberion whilst Terrorizer Magazine and Close-Up, amongst others, sang their praise. And so begins the ‘Age Of The Fanatics’ campaign. To perfectly realize the band’s harrowing aesthetic vision behind the music, the whole album conceptwas illustrated by renowned artist Dávid Glomba, also known as Teitan Arts. A Slovakian mastermind who has previously worked with bands such as Cult Of Fire, Svartidauði and Inferno. Several large-scale illustrations were commissioned which adorn the cover, booklet and vinyl inserts. All of which are stunning in themselves and perfectly capture the tone of the record.
Lyrically, ”Age Of The Fanatics” is a study in cynicism, and aside from a few exceptions the revolutionary spirit from ”The Insurrection” is gone. What is left is a bitter declaration of doom. A cynical nihilism that lashes out against organized religion, corporate greed and political corruption leading to a hopeless state of depression and alienation, finally closing the circle with a desire for isolation and total death worship, welcoming the apocalypse. Welcome to the ‘Age Of The Fanatics’.
